Spherosyn and Microsyn transducers can not only be used in the DP700 digital position display, but can also be integrated into various feedback applications such as CNC systems and PLCs. How it works Spherosyn and Microsyn scales are based on the principle of electromagnetism and consist of a stainless steel or carbon fiber tube filled with individually graded high-precision steel balls. The beads are placed in the tube at a controlled temperature and calibrated. The readout head consists of six coils that are wound around a composite fiber spool. The coils and the required electronic circuitry are encapsulated inside the readhead using a special molding process. Applying a voltage to the coil creates an electromagnetic field in the reading head. Due to the curvature of the balls inside the tube, the output signal varies depending on the position of the coils over the balls. As the reading head passes over the ruler, the relative axial motion generates corresponding signals that are induced on each probe coil.
