Trepanning drills are also called trepanning cutters, crown drills, tubular drills or tubular cutters. They make it possible to quickly drill holes in solid material without the need for so-called pre-drilling. Thanks to their specific design, these tools are characterized by a very low demand for applied power (30% demand compared to a twist drill). With trepan drill bits, only the peripheral zone of the hole is cut. The drilling operation is much cleaner, as incomparably fewer chips are produced. The drilled holes are smooth and do not require deburring. The "plug" that is formed after cutting the hole can be used as a full-fledged material. They are used for drilling: hardened materials (e.g. HARDOX), stainless steel, high-tensile steel (e.g. in railroad or tramway rails). When used properly, these cutters are less prone to breakage than standard HSS cutters, especially in larger diameters and lengths.
