When combined with a glycol circuit, significant energy savings are achieved. The glycol mass acts as a cold trapping medium. ASD dehumidifiers are particularly suitable for part-load operation and irregular compressed air demand. By using ASD dryers, operating costs can be significantly reduced. Operation and advantages of the glycol circuit The water-glycol mixture is cooled when not all the cooling energy is needed to cool the compressed air. When the refrigeration compressor shuts down during part-load operation, the compressed air is cooled by the cold stored in the glycol mass. Only when this mass is no longer cool enough does the refrigeration compressor turn on again. ASD dryers therefore show potential for savings, especially when operating under partial load and with irregular compressed air demand. When the air compressor turns back on after an interruption and releases compressed air into the piping system, ASD dryers immediately cool this compressed air to the dew point, as the glycol mass immediately provides the required temperature. In many other systems, where the refrigeration compressor is only allowed to cool down to operating temperature after the start-up period, moist air flows into the supply network during this time, with all the negative consequences of this. Pre-cooling of the intake air is caused by counter-current cold exhaust air in the heat exchanger. The inlet air is brought to dew point temperature by the refrigerant circuit, resulting in the formation of condensate. The condensate is collected and removed in an integrated electronic condensate separator with level control. The glycol circuit stores excess energy and cools the intake air at partial load.
